- Description: During the last 30 years, demand for high pressure pumps for water jet blasting and water jet cutting operations has grown dramatically. Philadelphia Carbide has met this need with a wide range of pump components, including plungers, pistons, backup and distance rings, sleeves, bushings, needles, valve seats, plugs and balls. Shown here are a sampling of the various types of plungers we make. Plungers are manufactured from zirconium, alumina, silicon nitride, nickel binder carbide and tungsten carbide. Philadelphia Carbide is capable of finishing plungers to a surface finish of less than 1 Ra-- a finish that is crucial for maximizing plunger and packing service life.
